As part of
BFA grand opening activities for new warehouse
facilities, a new partnership with the USAID African
Education Initiative was announced to ship 18
40-foot containers of textbooks to eight African
countries. Containers will be shipped to Ethiopia,
Ghana, Liberia, Madagascar, Senegal, South Africa, Tanzania, and
Zambia. The first container was shipped on
September 27, 2006 to Tumaini University in Iringa,
Tanzania with the Tanzanian Ambassador to the United
States — the Honorable Andrew Daraja — on hand for
the day’s festivities. Over 500,000 books valued at
over $2.6 million will be shipped under this
partnership with USAID.
“Books For Africa is honored to work in partnership with USAID’s African Education Initiative to improved education across the African continent,” said Books For Africa Executive Director Patrick Plonski. The BFA-USAID project is scheduled for completion by August of 2007.
