Books For Africa Hosts Mandela Washington Fellows Delegation

Cass and Andy Stillman hosted Books For Africa’s 2015 Kilimanjaro Society Reception at their beautiful residence in Woodland, MN. We were fortunate to be joined this year by special guests, a delegation of twenty-five young African leaders participating in the Mandela Washington Fellowship at the Hubert H. Humphrey Institute.

The Mandela Washington Fellows are part of a group of 500 dynamic young Africa leaders who come to the U.S. each year under the program begun by President Obama in 2010.  This is the second consecutive year that Mandela Fellows have attended BFA's annual reception, and we look forward to continuing to develop relationships with these talented and driven individuals.

Guests at the Kilimanjaro Society Reception enjoyed food and drink provided by Jambo Africa and Amara wines, as well as hearing from the Mandela Fellows about the careers and causes to which they are devoted in their home countries.  The 25 young African leaders are ages 25-35 and come from across Africa including Botswana, Burkina Faso, Cameroon, Cote d’Ivoire, Ethiopia, Ghana Kenya, Nigeria, Rwanda, Sierra Leone, South Africa, Tanzania and Zambia.

Kilimanjaro Society donors provide at least $1,000 in donations to Books For Africa in a fiscal year, and members includes exclusive invitations to events such as this, among other benefits.  To learn more about BFA's Kilimanjaro Society click here.

The Mandela Fellows also spent time volunteering at our St. Paul, MN warehouse in conjunction with Nelson Mandela International Day, named for the late South African leader and dedicated to service in his honor.  The delegates helped to sort and pack books in preparation for shipment, and a good time was had by all!
