Books For Africa Receives "Friend of the Community" Award at 8th Annual African Awards
Books For Africa was honored to receive the “Friend of the Community” award at the 8th African Awards Gala in October at Target Headquarters in Minneapolis. The award recognizes BFA’s work shipping over 46 million books, serving every country in Africa, while working in close partnership with African diaspora around the world.
The Friend of the Community title is awarded to an organization that, through its activities or service offering, has proven effective in serving and meeting the needs of the African community in The Americas or Africa. Books For Africa’s mission of ending the book famine in Africa has been recognized by ambassadors and community leaders, and fulfills the need for books in Sub-Saharan Africa that has been documented by international organizations such as the World Bank.
Board president Jote Taddese stepped forward to receive the award on BFA’s behalf. The event, which attracts a distinguished group of attendees each year, also included red carpet arrivals, a keynote speaker, and entertainment.
The goal of the African Awards is to showcase African immigrant stories and celebrate their accomplishments and dedication to our community. After a shortlist is developed by a panel of businesspeople, academics and judges, the winner is decided by the community based on criteria developed by the African Awards.
