Books For Africa Publishing Prints Somali Language Books
Books For Africa Publishing, BFA's publishing initiative, has custom-printed 44,000 Somali-language books for shipment to Somalia! 11,000 copies of four children's titles have been printed in partnership with the Minnesota Humanities Center and will be distributed to young students across Somalia.
Books For Africa Publishing was launched in an effort to provide culturally relevant, local-language material to schools and communities in Africa. The first project under the initiative delivered 300,000 Portuguese language books to help promote literacy in Mozambique. BFA partnered with Barefoot Books to ship copies of their best-selling titles, which were translated to Mozambican Portuguese and delivered to orphans with AIDS and their caregivers. The titles were carefully selected by the Ministry of Health, as well as the Ministry of Gender, Children, and Social Action, and span a wide range of ages, from babies and toddlers, through pre-school, elementary and secondary school.
BFA is excited to continue developing this initiative, and working with our partners in Africa to develop the best and most relevant content possible.
