Books For Africa Discusses Book Projects With Members of the African Diplomatic Corps in Washington, DC
BFA Executive Director Patrick Plonski was in Washington, DC, last week, to meet with dignitaries. While there, he visited with ambassadors and diplomatic staff from Zambia, South Africa, Egypt, the African Union and Tunisia. Notably, these included His Excellency Nejmeddine Lakhal, Ambassador of Tunisia to the United States, who is sponsoring a shipment of Elsevier science books and Merck Medical Manuals to Tunisia in the months ahead, and Her Excellency Hilda Suka-Mafunze, Ambassador of the African Union to the United States, who will be speaking at the grand opening of our new Atlanta warehouse next month.
The visits also included the handing over of Merck Manuals on e-readers to several Ambassadors, such as His Excellency Lazarous Kapambwe, Ambassador of Zambia to the U.S., and a meeting with the Ambassador of South Africa to the U.S., Nomaindiya Mfeketo.
While in Washington, Plonski also met with the US Global Leadership Coalition, where BFA serves on the MN advisory board.
Books For Africa deems it a critical goal to stay in touch with the African diplomatic corps and to retain good relations with Africa government officials to help ensure that the books sent to Africa are useful and meeting the needs of African libraries, schools and universities.
