Books For Africa Awarded 9th Consecutive Top Rating by Charity Navigator, Putting it in Top 4 Percent of All US Charities
For the ninth year in a row, Books For Africa has received Charity Navigator's 4-star rating, the highest rating given by the country’s leading charity evaluator. Charity Navigator rates charities on sound fiscal management and commitment to accountability and transparency, a category in which Books For Africa was awarded a 100% rating.
"Attaining a 4-star rating verifies that Books For Africa exceeds industry standards and outperforms most charities in your area of work," Michael Thatcher, President and CEO of Charity Navigator, wrote in a letter to BFA Executive Director Patrick Plonski. Thatcher went on to add that "only 4% of the charities we evaluate have received at least 9 consecutive 4-star evaluations, indicating that Books For Africa outperforms most other charities in America. This exceptional designation from Charity Navigator sets Books For Africa apart from its peers and demonstrates to the public its trustworthiness."
"It's important to our donors that we're using their donations wisely to end the book famine in Africa," said Plonski. "Our perfect four-star rating demonstrates our commitment to serving the students and people of Africa effectively and efficiently, and assures our supporters that we follow industry best practices with accountability and transparency."
Books For Africa remains the largest shipper of donated text and library books to the African continent, shipping over 50 million books to all 55 countries on the African continent since 1988. Last year alone, Books For Africa shipped 3.7 million books, and 167 computers and e-readers containing nearly 300,000 digital books, to 20 African countries. More than $3.2 million was raised last year to ship these books to the students of Africa.
