BFA Founder travels to Nigeria to celebrate work with our major partner, the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation

Founder of BFA Tom Warth, BFA board member Mike Essien, and former U.S. Ambassador to Nigeria Howard Jeter visited Nigeria to see the great work being done there by the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF) this October. Tom and Mike visited Sir Offor, the founder and namesake of the Foundation, to participate in a special event to celebrate the receipt of the most recent shipment of 16 containers of books to Nigeria.

The Sir Emeka Offor Foundation—a major philanthropic foundation associated with the Nigerian oil conglomerate, the Chrome Group, and a valued partner of Books For Africa—initiated a plan to sponsor major shipments of books to Nigeria, The Gambia, and a number of other African countries. In the past three years, SEOF has helped BFA ship nearly 640,000 books—worth more than $6.5 million—to students in Nigeria and The Gambia. In a country like Nigeria where millions of primary school-aged children do not attend school, books are definitely needed!

Sir Emeka Offor recently said of his work with Books For Africa, “I am committed to bringing literacy to every boy and girl, every man and woman in Africa.”

The Foundation has made tremendous efforts in sending books to schools and libraries in Africa. The shelves of more than 90 libraries were filled as a part of their most recent shipment. Read the Foundation’s report for more information on all that they are doing to end the book famine in Nigeria.  Books For Africa is pleased to partner with Sir Emeka Offor to advance the cause of literacy and education across the African continent.
