50 Millionth Book Celebration Raises Funds to Sponsor Over 806,000 Books to Africa
Our 50 Millionth Book Global Celebration raised a total of over $403,000 in donations, sponsorships and pledges – that’s enough to send over 806,000 books to Africa!
The Celebration raised funds to ship books to Kenya, Ethiopia, Ghana, Tanzania, Congo, Uganda, Somalia, The Gambia, Nigeria, Mali, Sierra Leone, Rwanda and Malawi. We’re also pleased to report that donations in September to container projects will be generously matched by sponsor Out of Print in honor of the Celebration!
The event included a keynote speech by Ambassador of Ghana to the United States Dr. Barfuor Adjei-Barwuah, as well as words from former Minneapolis Mayor Sharon Sayles Belton and BFA Executive Director Patrick Plonski. The event also showcased a video celebration, including our 50 Millionth Book, Kofi Loves Music, as it travels from founder Tom Warth’s hands in Saint Paul, Minnesota to the warehouse, for shipment to Ghana in the coming weeks.
You can still be a part of the celebration and stay involved with Books For Africa year round! You can donate in honor of our 50 Millionth Book, watch the Global Celebration program again, read the Mshale article recapping the highlights of the celebration, or check out more opportunities to volunteer or donate books!
