Locally Grown, Internationally Known
Recent fundraising events in Saint Paul, Minnesota and Atlanta, Georgia have delivered over 66,000 high-quality books, computers, and other educational supplies to libraries and classrooms across the African continent!
Books For Africa's campaign for Give to the Max Day, held annually in November to "ignite generosity and grow giving" in the state of Minnesota, delivered a 40 foot container of books and computers to students and teachers in Rwanda. Our friends at Out of Print Clothing made this campaign twice as nice, matching every donation made on Give to the Max day dollar for dollar. Materials from this shipment will support students in secondary schools, university programs, and technical colleges throughout the country!
2015 marked the first year of the Books For Africa Golf Challenge! Held October 30th at St. Marlo Country Club in Atlanta, GA, this great event gave us a chance to raise funds and awareness right in our own back yard. Atlanta is home to BFA's main warehouse, where we host over 13,000 volunteers annually! These volunteers are essential to our efforts as they help our warehouse staff process, sort, and ship out over 2 million high quality, useful books per year to African classrooms and libraries.
The inaugural year of this event was a great success, raising funds to deliver over 42,000 books to students in need across Africa, including those in Cameroon and Ghana. This was our most successful Atlanta fundraiser to date, and we are greatly encouraged by the overwhelming turnout and support. Our many thanks to all the great folks who participated in this year's Golf Challenge; we look forward to hosting the event again in 2016 and building on this year's success!
We are proud to work with local donors to support reading and education across the African continent! We are excited to continue building these great relationships as we strive to support a culture of literacy, providing tools of empowerment to the next generation of African parents, teachers and leaders.
