Supreme Court of Malawi Receives Reference Law Library from Books For Africa

Books For Africa was delighted to receive photos of the installed reference law library sent last year to Malawi’s Supreme Court, along with a letter from Chief Justice Rizine Robert Mzikamanda.

This Thomson Reuters/American Bar Association reference law library was sponsored by the Attorney General Alliance, and was sent to Blantyre at their request. They have sponsored several law libraries to the judiciary throughout the continent through their Africa program.

Books For Africa sent the shipment in partnership with Peachtree Church in Atlanta, Georgia, where BFA's main warehouse is located. Peachtree Church was sending a container of school books to Malawi. They graciously allowed the law library to travel with their shipment. Peachtree has been involved with the northern Chitipa region of Malawi since 2010. Their focus has mainly been on education, and they manage a school sponsorship program with over 350 students. Since 2015, Peachtree has partnered with BFA to send one container of school books every year.  Their Mission Director, Nancy Ike, said, "The education program has truly transformed this community, and Books For Africa has been a definite enhancement to this initiative."

Chief Justice Mzikamanda said in part in his letter, "We are truly grateful for such a donation. I can attest that these books will be very useful to the Malawi Judiciary. We do not take your generosity for granted." In a later email, he indicated that the Malawi Judiciary would appreciate another reference law library for their High Court in Lilongwe. The Attorney General Alliance again agreed to sponsor this law library, and Peachtree Church fortuitously has another container leaving soon which will include this law library!

Books For Africa is thankful to Thomson Reuters and the American Bar Association for providing these new latest-edition law books. And we're also thankful to the Attorney General Alliance and Peachtree Church for allowing us to send these reference law libraries to the Malawi Supreme and High Courts. It takes many of us working together to make projects like this happen!
