Books For Africa Sends Books to Schools, Hospitals, and the Ministry of Justice in Eswatini

Gcebile Hlophe and Lindiwe Sibisi

Books For Africa was thrilled to receive news of distribution of its recent shipment to Eswatini! This container for Read to Recovery in Eswatini (formerly Swaziland) was a partner effort: led by Barb Houle and Lindiwe Sibisi, it was partially sponsored by Out of Print and received in-kind freight services from UPS.

In Eswatini, Gcebile Hlophe of the Alliance Church provided importing services, ensuring the smooth transfer to Lindiwe Sibisi, who distributed these books to primary and secondary schools, as well as hospitals.

The shipment included not only a Girls Empowerment Library but also a Thomson Reuters and ABA Law Library for the Ministry of Justice, sponsored by the Attorney General Alliance – Africa. This library was received by the Honorable Chief Justice of Eswatini M.C.B. Maphalala.

Read to Recovery began in 2010 as an initiative to provide books to patients in need of distractions, as well as family members, and has also expanded its efforts out to provide books to schools! This is the second shipment Books For Africa has provided to the Read to Recovery program.

BFA received a wonderful report of distribution with many in recipient thank-you letters (PDF download) and photos. We’ve selected some quotes from the letters below, along with a slideshow to share, below!

This school has lacked many books for almost a year. With the books that we got, we will try our best to improve and go for an extra mile to get good results as a school. We really admire what you have done for us as a school.
-    Tenele Motsa, a student at Sokhonjiwe High School

The books will help our learners improve their writing and reading skills. They will also help change the school’s passing rate. Because of your donation, the sky is definitely not the limit for us.
-    Musa Phiri, Head Teacher at Sigombeni Primary School

We Enkonjaneni primary learners are thankful for receiving books. The books will help us a lot. Most of the time we have difficulties in reading. The books will help us to improve our reading skills.
-    Promise Dlamini, a student at Nkonjaneni Alliance Church Primary School

Your donating to Hospice makes us so grateful and shows your love for the sick people and their families under our care. Your donation will enable the organization to do what it has always wished to do, that is, distracting people from their pain… Reading is one therapeutic way which shall be experienced by the clients and their families.
