Partnership With The Giving Exchange Delivers For Students In Nairobi
Books For Africa recently partnered with The Giving Exchange (TGE) to deliver over 20,000 books to 12 libraries in schools and orphanages in Nairobi, Kenya. The Giving Exchange, based in California, works around the globe to connect need with supply for good to create self-sustainable programs with long-lasting impact. In addition to some great photos, we were excited to receive feedback from project recipients:
Wilson Nyutu, a pupil at Bahati Rehabilitation Center, reported that
These books will help us learn more, and thank you again for the [book] shelves. I wish you will come again!
Virginia Kiare, Director at Ebenezer Children’s Home, shares the impact the books will have on her students, telling us
These books will be very beneficial to the children as they acquire knowledge and [pursue] their dreams. Knowledge is power, and we appreciate you for empowering these children through the books donated.
Victor Ingaso, a student at Maendeleo Learning Center, described the importance of the new library, not just to students and staff, but to the community as a whole:
[The new library] is the only library in the community. The people appreciate the big important thing you have done! People living around the school are happy because the new library is opened for everyone. We promise to take care of the library and we hope that you will come back one day and see how we are doing well because of your support and kindness.
Partnering with great organizations like The Giving Exchange helps put the right books in the hands of students who need them. By leveraging the strengths of both organizations we are able to better serve the recipient organizations we work with. In the many letters expressing thanks for the books, there was an equal enthusiasm and appreciation for the bookshelves and library infrastructure implemented by The Giving Exchange, and site visits by TGE staff clearly made a lasting impression on the students and teachers whose lives they touched. We look forward to continuing to build relationships and working with wonderful partners in our pursuit of ending the African book famine!
