Zanzibar Book Walk and Africa Learning Tour
Join supporters from around the world in February 2016 for exciting trip options to Zanzibar, Tanzania, South Africa, and Malawi! The trip, led by Tom Warth or Henry Bromelkamp, will occur in February 2016 in four segments.
You can choose which portions of the trip you would like to join:
• Feb 1-6: Zanzibar Book Walk
• Feb 7-15: South Africa Learning Tour
• Feb 14-21: Malawi Learning Tour
• Feb 22-24: Cape Town Learning Tour
The Zanzibar Book Walk will raise funds to send books to Zanzibar & awareness about our mission to end the book famine in Africa. The 20-mile walk will cross the island over two days ending in Stone Town, the capital of the island. Funds raised by Book Walk participants will sponsor books to Zanzibar, which will be distributed to schools along the walk route prior to February. After the walk event, attendees will help Tom celebrate his 80th birthday with a fabulous beach-side party. The trip also includes an evening reception at the Dar es Salaam home of Mrs. Anna Mkapa, Former First Lady of Tanzania.
Following the Book Walk, the Africa Learning Tour will visit school building sites for Africa Classroom Connection and Books For Africa recipients with optional segments to Malawi and Cape Town. Funds raised by travelers on the Tour will result in building one to two new classrooms, enough for 45-90 students to continue their education. This is not a conventional package tour of Africa. While we will see wild animals on safari (a treasure of Africa!) most of the Tour will be philanthropic and cultural.
The Book Walk/Learning Tour itinerary includes:
• Six nights in Zanzibar, Tanzania, including two days in a fundraising Zanzibar Book Walk
• Arrival and overnight in Johannesburg, South Africa
• Four days in Zululand near Eshowe, SA to visit schools, meet the learners, and teach classes
• Four days on safari in wildlife parks: St. Lucia wetlands and Hluhluwe large game park
• Two days in Johannesburg and Pretoria, including Soweto and the Apartheid Museum
• Five days in Malawi: the capital Lilongwe, Lake Malawi, Mua Mission and Museum, and Zomba
• Three days in Cape Town
