Most people know that education is the key to ending global poverty. If the next generation of leaders, entrepreneurs, teachers and parents are better educated, they will be more equipped to improve their conditions.  Books For Africa is an organization that is working to accomplish that goal today. Its message is clearly stated on its website: “education is the great equalizer in the world, and books are at the foundation of a strong educational system.”

Business and government leaders understand that business investment alone will not have a significant impact on Africa's success. It will take a combination of the work of NGOs such as St. Paul-based Books For Africa and US AID support for developing countries, whose funding faces possible severe cuts. Since 1988 BFA has shipped 39 million school and law books to 49 African countries. Books are critical to the education of Africa's students and future workforce.  

Books For Africa is excited to share our 2016 Annual Report!  2016 was a fantastic year here at BFA, and the generous support of our donors has allowed us to make great strides in fighting the African book famine.  Check out the report to see highlights from the year and find out more about what BFA is doing.

Sierra Leone’s Refugee All Stars performed live at the Amsterdam Bar & Hall to help raise funds for Books For Africa.

Edwin Clark University (ECU), Kiagbodo in Burutu Local Government Area of Delta has received donation of  books worth 27 million US dollars.

Books For Africa’s new E-reader initiative is set to launch, with initial pilot sets going to recipients in East, West, and South Central Africa.  With cultivated content specific to each region, the E-reader initiative will offer a unique opportunity to put regionally appropriate titles in the hands of students who are eager to read.
