Books For Africa was thrilled to host a reception honoring former UN Secretary General Kofi Annan on May 7th, 2018. Over 100 key supporters gathered at the University Club of St. Paul for the reception, which was held in recognition of the 30th anniversary of Books For Africa and the 10th anniversary of our law book program, the Jack Mason Law & Democracy Initiative.

Leaving the Books For Africa warehouse in Atlanta last week was a 40-foot sea container holding 22,000 books departing for the Kofi Annan Institute for Conflict Transformation Project in Monrovia, Liberia. In addition to large quantities of books on general topics, a law/human rights library was provided courtesy of Thomson Reuters and the BFA Law & Democracy Initiative.

In May 2017, The Open University of Tanzania, in collaboration with Poverty Eradication Network (PEN) Trust, received a container of BFA books, including a brand new Law & Human Rights Library delivered by the Books For Africa Jack Mason Law & Democracy Initiative.

Fredrikson & Byron Law Firm in Minneapolis recently hosted an event benefiting Books For Africa's Jack Mason Law & Democracy Initiative. The event featured remarks from John Bessler, who discussed the book he recently edited –Justice Stephen Breyer’s Against the Death Penalty. Proceeds of the book, which he later signed for participants, will be donated to Books For Africa’s Law and Democracy Initiative.
