The world’s largest shipper of donated books to Africa held a fundraiser on June 8, where the goal was to break its own record and send 3.2 million books to the continent by the end of the year.

Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States made a special appearance in St. Paul this week. Hajia Alima Mahama gave the keynote speech at a “Books For Africa” event Wednesday afternoon.

Ghana’s ambassador to the U.S., Her Excellency Hajia Alima Mahama, is in St. Paul speaking at a lunch Wednesday organized by Books For Africa. The lunch, which is fully booked, was scheduled for noon at the Town and Country Club, 300 N. Mississippi River Blvd.

A huge effort is taking place right now to get more than 5000 French-language books from Atlanta to the French-speaking country of Mali in West Africa.

Books For Africa was honored to recently host two delegations from Kenyan universities at its Minnesota warehouse facility.  Both delegations expressed strong interest in securing books for their universities from BFA.

The Jack Mason Law & Democracy Initiative began as a result of the chance meeting of two neighbors, who just happened to be lawyers, at a neighborhood potluck back in 2008. Lane Ayres is a retired assistant Hennepin County attorney. Tom Pfeifer is an executive at Thomson Reuters.
