BFA Recipients Call Books High-Quality, Report Positive Impact for Ninth Consecutive Year

Books For Africa has completed its ninth consecutive year of enhanced post-shipment feedback surveys! Our annual survey is an opportunity to assess how our books are fitting the needs of our recipients and making the impact we hope, as well as a chance to share that feedback with our friends and supporters!

This year’s survey (which you can download here) received responses from 25 recipients in 14 countries. The survey found that recipients unanimously rate BFA books as useful and of high quality. On average, recipients deemed 98% of the books they received relevant, and over three-quarters of recipients report seeing increased library use since receiving BFA books!

Since we began our enhanced annual surveys in 2016, we have collected feedback from 314 recipients in 36 different countries.

As this is the ninth year of completing our enhanced surveys, we can look at trends over time and see that our numbers on improving access and literacy remain high, as do our numbers on overall book quality. We’ve seen wish list items branch out over the years, as recipients become more focused on computer literacy and digital books, and interested in eco-friendly ways to have the books shipped.

Recipient feedback allows us to make sure we are sending the right high-quality, relevant materials, and that they are being utilized as effectively as possible by recipient schools and libraries. By soliciting recipient feedback, we are able to minimize books that are irrelevant and ensure that the books donated are as useful as possible.
