Sir Emeka Offor Foundation Visits BFA Warehouse To Lay Groundwork for Medical Book Shipments

Books For Africa was honored to host Sir Emeka Offor of Nigeria, along with a delegation of the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF), at its main warehouse in Marietta, Georgia.

The Foundation, a long-term distinguished partner of BFA, believes that education is the cornerstone of our future. To that end, among its humanitarian work, it has sponsored the shipment of nearly three million books to Africa to date.

During his visit, Sir Emeka inspected Books For Africa’s robust collection of postsecondary and professional-level medical content, provided in part by Elsevier, a globally recognized publisher in the STEM fields. The Nigerian Minister of Health, liaising with SEOF, expressed interest in the resources Books For Africa has to offer.  In 2019, Books For Africa worked with SEOF and then-Minister of Health Dr. Osagie Ehanire to ship 11 containers of books to Nigeria, alongside a shipment of supplies from MedShare.

Prior to Sir Emeka’s visit, he met with BFA Executive Director Patrick Plonski, Rotary Foundation Chairman Mark Maloney, and Dr. Muyi Aina, CEO of Nigeria’s National Primary Healthcare Development Agency, at Rotary Headquarters in Chicago. There, they discussed healthcare initiatives, as well as Books For Africa’s role distributing medical books through the Merck Foundation. Rotary International has also been a key partner of Books For Africa, sponsoring over 2.5 million books to the continent.

BFA’s partnership with major players such as the Merck Foundation (Merck is known internationally as MSD) enables it to distribute high-quality medical books to institutions, schools and providers across the African continent. In recent years, this partnership has provided large shipments to Malawi, Ethiopia, and Ghana, with smaller amounts going to dozens of other African nations.

Books For Africa was proud to host SEOF once again, and looks forward to our partnership with the Foundation in its humanitarian efforts!
