In 2020, Books For Africa aims to ship our 50 millionth book to Africa! Please join us in celebrating at our Virtual Global Celebration on September 24th, featuring a keynote address by the Ambassador of Ghana to the U.S.!

BFA was pleased to get some photos and feedback from a Girls Empowerment Collection that recently arrived in South Africa in the hands of Xoli Fuyani (pictured at left). We also heard from recipient Rethabile Sonibare, who let us know that the books are being distributed just in time for Women’s Month in South Africa!

Books For Africa lost a dear friend on June 18th when Vivian Mason passed away. Vivian helped create the law book program for BFA, which was launched in 2008. BFA is planning to ship a law library to Ghana later this year in Vivian's memory.

Former Tanzanian President Benjamin Mpaka passed away on Friday, July 24. Not only was President Mpaka a one-time ambassador to the U.S. and a two-term leader from 1995 to 2005, he was also a friend and supporter of Books For Africa. Longtime BFA donor, supporter, and former board member Henry Bromelkamp was featured in a recent story in the Minneapolis Star Tribune, about his philanthropic work and recovery from a recent traumatic brain injury.
