U.S. Marines Deliver BFA Books to Schoolchildren in Djibouti

In March 2009, Marines from the 9th Provisional Security Force, a reserve unit stationed in St. Paul, Minnesota, USA, began delivering approximately 15,000 BFA books and Marine-built bookcases to primary and secondary schools across Djibouti as well as the University of Djibouti. BFA Books Arrive at Eden Campus in South Africa

In February 2009, Eden Campus in South Africa was delighted to host the Books For Africa Cashless Market Day in Karatara's Protea Hall. A steady flow of representatives from local schools, libraries, outreach projects, and charities flowed through the hall, collecting free books to take back and share with their organizations. One beneficiary was heard saying, "It's like all of our Christmases wrapped into one!" The books were shipped to Eden Campus thanks to funding from importer MT Global. Dictionary Project Director Mary French Tours BFA Warehouse

Books For Africa founder Tom Warth, the Dictionary Project Director Mary French, and Books For Africa Director Pat Plonski discussed strategies for getting more dictionaries into the hands of African children during a recent tour of the Books For Africa warehouse. The Dictionary Project has donated tens of thousands of dictionaries to Books For Africa over the years. “Dictionaries, and other reference material such as encyclopedia sets and atlases, are in high demand and are among the most important books that we send in our shipments to Africa,” Plonski said.

Girl in Germany Celebrates 3rd Birthday with Mardi Gras-Themed Party for Books For Africa

Siena Jacobson, who lives in Germany, recently celebrated her 3rd birthday with a Mardi Gras-themed party for Books For Africa. Guests shared their love of reading by donating books, plus 50 cents per book to cover the cost of shipping them to Africa.
