Books For Africa concluded its fiscal year on July 1, 2011, and shipped 178 container units to 21 African countries, representing approximately 1.9 million books shipped for a cumulative total of almost 25 million books shipped in BFA's history. These books were valued at $22.2 million. A total of $1.7 million in cash was raised by donors to ship these books. This enthusiastic group of high school students came to the Books For Africa warehouse in Smyrna, Georgia, from the Upward Bound Program at the College of Mount St. Joseph in Cincinnati, Ohio. Director Christopher Goins led his group around Atlanta in July, visiting colleges and performing volunteer work. Thanks to generous funding from the Sir Emeka Offor Foundation (SEOF), eight sea containers of BFA books and computers are being distributed to over 200 schools and libraries throughout Nigeria. In addition, the University of Nigeria at Nsukka law faculty will receive a core library of brand-new West law books donated by Thomson Reuters. BFA Executive Director Pat Plonski noted that “this is the largest donation by a single benefactor in the history of Books For Africa, and the largest donation ever to Nigeria." Law schools and legal institutions across Zambia will benefit from the more than 1,200 law books in the BFA shipment that just arrived in Lusaka. Thomson Reuters generously provided the funding to ship the books and also donated a West core library and many other legal texts. The law books will be distributed to 12 recipients, including the University of Zambia Law School, Zambia Bar Association, Women Lawyer’s Association of Zambia, the National Legal Aid Clinic for Women, the Zambia Human Rights Commission, and the High Courts of Livingston, Kabwe, Ndola, and Kitwe. Mary T Inc., a healthcare company based in Minnesota, funded the delivery of over 22,000 BFA books and 15 refurbished computers to students at 24 secondary schools and 22 primary schools throughout Cameroon. One recipient school was the Margaret Tjosvold Nursery & Primary School in Santa, Bamenda, Cameroon, which opened in 2002. Click on the link above for more details and photos...

Thanks to generous funding from Better World Books, a container of 22,000 BFA books left the Books For Africa warehouse in Georgia on its way to Angola. In June 2011, guests at the BFA Atlanta warehouse open house celebrated the tremendous support BFA has received from Better World Books and witnessed the send-off of the shipment to Angola.
